You have probably never thought much about it, but the form of your exercises has a lot to do with the effectiveness of your exercises. When you workout with the right form, you put concentration on the right muscles allowing them to receive the most benefit of the exercise.

When you’re not using the right form, you start to activate supporting muscles more. This not only takes the work away from the primary muscles but can cause…

  • Instability
  • Injury
  • Balance problems
  • Mismatched body

While I can’t go into the right form for each exercise in this short article, here is what you need to concentrate when you’re working out.

Don’t lift too much weight

Most guys try to lift too much weight and that is a driver of their bad form. You typically contort your body trying to push or pull the weight. So make sure when you lift heavy you put extra concentration on form.

No breathing

This is typically a result of too much weight, but other guys just don’t breath well when they workout. When you don’t breath you stiffen your body which can also lead to bad form and injury. Make sure you breath all the time.

Work on form

Make a concentrated effort to practice your form. Have a friend or another guy at the gym watch your form and critique you. This can really help let you know what you look like and fix things.

Some exercises that require great form for sure are the deadlift, squats, lunges, decline bench, bent over row, and snatches.
